A double debut at Komptech - launch of the Chippo 5010 Cdt swivelling mobile chipper and the Stonefex stone separator
Frohnleiten/Oelde, January 2012. The goal is clear - biomass fuel is going play a key role in the European energy supply mix. But to meet the constantly rising demand for environment-friendly fuels, existing biomass streams must be used more efficiently, and new sources made available. The shredders, screens and separators by Austrian-German manufacturer Komptech are international leaders in the processing of solid waste and woody biomass. Their efficiency and throughput are set to get attention at the leading international trade fair, IFAT ENTSORGA, from 7 to 11 May 2012 at the Neue Messe fairgrounds in Munich. The new Chippo 5010 Cdt (t for “turnable”) swivelling mobile chipper and Cribus 5000 mobile trommel screen will be big draws for visitors to Komptech at booth 403/502 in Hall C2. Just a few steps farther on, on the VDMA Practice Days grounds, they can watch the new Stonefex mobile stone separator in action for the first time.
Narrow lanes, restricted visibility, no room to turn or manoeuver - chipping on the right and left on logging roads can be a driving and working challenge for chipper operators.
The answer - turn the chipping unit instead of the truck!
On the Chippo 5010 Cdt (t for “turnable”) the chipping unit is mounted on a sturdy turntable and swivels through 260°, so that the machine can work on both sides even on narrow logging roads and other places where space is limited, without time-consuming and risky turning manoeuvers.
Unlike many other swivelling mobile chippers, the truck-mounted Komptech Chippo 5010 Cdt is powered directly by the powerful 540 hp MAN truck engine. The engine power is transferred to the chipper unit almost loss-free by a purpose-designed transmission, ensuring that the maximum performance is available where it is needed. With no need for an extra powerplant, the Chippo 5010 Cdt has full freedom of movement to both sides through a full 260°, without exceeding standard truck width. The whole package remains neat and compact.
New XL discharge pipe gives targeted chip loading
Further advantages of this first swivelling mobile chipper in the Chippo family are the powerful Epsilon wood loading crane and the XL discharge pipe. Newly developed by Komptech, the discharge pipe is 5 metres long and has improved contours. It has a two-piece flap for regulating the discharge distance, and lets the operator load the finished chips into a hopper, container or building, precisely and without scatter loss. All Komptech 5010 mobile chippers come with a drum speed of 440 or 560 rpm. The 440 rpm drum speed is ideal for chipping trunks. However, if the user intends to chip mostly shrubbery and small pieces, the 560 rpm drum speed is the more efficient choice. An even better way to go is with the optional planetary gear, that lets the operator choose between drum speeds on the job to fit the material at hand.
Tap new biomass resources with the Stonefex mobile stone separator
In addition to trunks, forestry residue, rootstocks and green cuttings are also a potentially lucrative source of biofuel. But despite thorough shredding and drum screening, it is often not possible to completely eliminate stones, which reduce the quality of the fuel and also lead to increased wear. This is where the new Stonefex mobile stone separator from Komptech comes in. The biomass is first shredded to the desired size, and then fed into the Stonefex’ separating chamber. Here, the stones are separated out of the biomass fraction under controlled pressure and flow conditions, quickly and without undue effort. The Stonefex achieves a separation efficiency of over 80 percent. This makes it possible to make fuel out woody biomass that was formerly deemed unsuitable, risky or financially unrewarding due to its high stone content.
Cribus 5000 E: The largest and most economical trommel screener now with hybrid power
With square meters of screening surface, a 7.7 meter long drum and 6.5 cubic meter hopper, the Cribus 5000 E mobile trommel screen by Komptech is the undisputed king of its performance class. The largest semitrailer screener, it also wins points on economy and efficiency. This high-performance machine was designed for maximum throughput, high energy efficiency, and low operating costs. Its electrical drive has a lot to do with it. None of the Komptech Cribus series machines use hydraulic power transmission. Instead, the Cribus 5000 E is powered by grid electricity, or optionally by electricity from its 48 kilowatt-hour built-in diesel generator.
Using grid power, the Cribus 5000 consumes 75 percent less energy than a comparable machine with conventional hydraulic drive. The new patented Wheelgrip drum drive also reduces operating costs, since it moves the drum with a low-wear friction wheel. Users really benefit from the long drum and resulting enormous screening surface when using screen holes under 20 millimetres, as material of varying coarseness is screened and separated reliably on its long path through the drum. Despite its impressive size, this semitrailer machine is easy to turn and manoeuvre, making the Cribus 5000 E is ideal for all operators looking for an economical screener with maximum performance and high flexibility.
The Axtor all-purpose wood chipper works in shredding and chipping modes
Komptech’s Axtor 8012 universal wood chipper is a hit. Powered by a 780 hp Caterpillar C18 engine, it attains a throughput of up to 400 loose cubic metres per hour. The key to the Axtor’s flexibility is its combination of two operating modes. As a high-speed machine in shredding mode, the Axtor prepares green cuttings for composting using free-swinging blades. In reduced-speed chipping mode, it outputs uniform-sized fuel for thermal power plants. The Axtor can handle materials ranging from untreated used wood to green cuttings, brush cuttings, bark, trunks, pre-sized rootstocks and forestry residue. It has a long feed ramp open to the front, which can be loaded from both sides. Two horizontal and two vertical intake rollers provide aggressive intake, for sure capture and feed of material to the drum.
