Together for a sustainable trade fair presence and a green future!

Trade shows are the platforms of the future. During the trade show days, experts from all over the world gather to offer their future technologies, discuss approaches to solutions and enter into new collaborations. Events of this magnitude have enormous value for the economy. At the same time, we must be aware: Greenhouse gas emissions are released at every event. Together with partners, we have set out to develop measures for a more sustainable trade show industry and to fulfill our social responsibility. After all, sustainability and climate protection must be actively lived - this also includes a sustainable trade show presence.

The primary objective of the program is to disseminate water purification systems to low-income households and institutions such as schools, starting in Uganda. Carbon finance is used to give households access to the clean water technologies thereby improving the livelihoods and health conditions of thousands of people and at the same time reducing CO₂ emissions by reducing the consumption of non-renewable firewood and charcoal.

Situation without project:
Water purification by boiling with non-renewable wood and charcoal

Yearly CO₂ reduction:
61.399 t

Your support contributes to the following 8 Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG1 No poverty
Over 130 tons of firewood can be saved by a school on average per water filtration system.

SDG 3 Good Health
More than 210,000 pupils benefit from the installed systems.

SDG 4 Quality Education
Thanks to clean drinking water, pupils are ill less often and can attend school more regularly.

SDG 6 Clean water and sanitary facilities
One school can treat 457,000 litres of drinking water per year.

SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production
354 water filter tanks and water treatment filters have been installed so far.

SDG 13 Climate Actions
50,000 tonnes of CO₂ are saved per year.

SDG 15 - Life on land
1,266 hectares of forest saved from deforestation.

SDG 17 Partnerships for the goals
Development, transfer and distribution of environmentally friendly water treatment technology.

Traditionally the rural communities of the Siaya region of western Kenya have cooked on open fires, which require huge amounts of firewood. Thanks to community savings and loaning (CSL) groups, however, women can now afford more efficient stoves. This reduces the demand for firewood and thus protects the local forests, which leads to reduced CO₂ emissions. Furthermore the CSL groups lead to a financial and social empowerment of women.

Situation without project:
Use of non-renewable biomass fuels for cooking

Yearly CO₂ reduction:
144,910 t

Your support contributes to the following 9 Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG1 No poverty
A household saves 72 euros and 262 hours due to reduced fuel consumption.

SDG 3 Good Health and well-being
Women and children from 79,296 households benefit from better air quality.

SDG 4 Quality Education
70,000 people have been reached with awareness creation on climate change, clean cooking and community saving & loaning.

SDG 5 Gender equality
30% of the jobs created by the project are held by women and the project reduces time spent by women and girls collecting firewood.

SDG 7 Affordablen and clean energy
428,198 persons benefit from efficient and cleaner cooking with 79,296 efficient stoves constructed.

SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth
224 people benefit from permanent employment.

SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production
The clean and energy efficient cookstoves are produced locally with local material.

SDG 13 Climate Actions
Each stoves saves around 2.0 t CO₂ per year.

SDG 15 Life on Land
3'802 tons of wood have been saved since project start.

The overall objective of this climate protection programme is the installation of domestic biodigesters as a clean, sustainable energy source throughout India. The biogas generated from cow dung replaces fuels that are currently used for domestic energy needs such as firewood or kerosene.

Situation without project:
Using firewood and kerosene for cooking

Yearly CO₂ reduction:
54.217 t

Your support contributes to the following 10 Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG1 No poverty
The use of slurry (organic fertiliser produced by the farmers themselves) helps to prevent small farmers from becoming dependent on chemical fertilisers, thus improving their families’ financial situation.

SDG 2 Zero hunger
To date, the biogas systems have produced 204,904 tonnes of organic fertiliser and thus reduced 4,952 tonnes of chemical fertiliser, thus contributing to sustainable agriculture.

SDG 3 Good Health an well-being
43,730 persons have benefited from better air quality since the start of the project.

SDG 4 Quality Education
Because the time-consuming collection of firewood is no longer necessary, children have more time to go to school and do homework. This gives each family almost 3.5 hours of additional time per day.

SDG 7 Affortable and clean energy
6,890 biogas digesters have been installed since the start of the project.

SDG 8 Decent work an economic growth
87 permanent jobs have been created for the local population and more than 7,600 people have been trained in the use of biogas plants.

SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production
The recycling of organic waste contributes to sustainable waste management.

SDG 13 Climate Actions
Each biogas biodigester avoids 7.1 t CO₂ and reduced wood consumption by 5.7 t per year.

SDG 15 Life on land
To date, the programme has reduced wood consumption by 218,388 tons and has thus saved 2,991 hectares of forest from deforestation.
