Sustainability in road construction

Road and path construction is affected by the demand for an environmentally compatible, sustainable and at the same time economical construction and operation as well as for high functional quality.

Following the successful introduction of “Sustainability in road construction” at IFAT 2018, IFAT 2020 will take account of this trend more strongly.

With the introduction of the new special topic Management of hazardous substances – Demolition – Mineral processing – Road construction, IFAT demonstrates how the cycle of construction and demolition waste can be closed.

While “Management of hazardous substances—Demolition and mineral processing—Road construction” focuses on the analysis, demolition, sorting and processing of construction and demolition waste, the field of road construction shows how the processed material is reasonably and sustainably used and installed.

When using RC building materials in road construction, certain structural specifications and environmental regulations must be met. “Intelligent” machines, efficient working methods and digitalized processes facilitate installation and documentation. In addition to the reuse of processed secondary raw materials in new and replacement construction projects, the preservation of existing roads contributes to the conservation of resources.

From the analysis of hazardous substances, the demolition and sorting to the treatment of recycling materials and their use in civil engineering and building construction. Emphasis is placed on innovative paving processes and intelligent maintenance measures in road construction.

As a highlight, the two live demonstrations VDMA Crushing Zone and Innovative Road construction (VDBUM) will show the demolition and treatment processes as well as the construction procedures.
